The well-being of everyone within our care home is a top priority for us and we continue to be as safe as possible since COVID-19. To allow us to do this, we continue to follow guidance and legislation as issued by the Government and key sector bodies and we are committed to keeping our residents, their families, and our staff well-informed at all times.

Hazelwood Care Home have worked hard to create and implement new policies and procedures to keep our home protected from infections and we do our hardest to provide reassurance to all that enters our home.

Ensuring the safety of our home is a top priority for us, we provide personal protective equipment and sanitation products for everyone to use, which helps to minimise the risk of contamination.

At Hazelwood Care Home, we understand the importance of staying compliant with the official advice and guidance provided by the Government, Department of Health and local NHS Trust. Our staff strictly follow the infection prevention and control measures we have put in place, and we encourage all residents to keep their vaccinations up to date.

If there are any cases of infection within our home, we have an effective system for recording and containing them to minimise their spread. We take the necessary actions to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and staff.

The Importance of Human Interaction

At Hazelwood Care Home, we’re committed to ensuring that our residents stay connected with their family and friends. We encourage everyone to take day trips or overnight stays outside the care home, and we carry out risk assessments to ensure their safety. Upon their return, we use respiratory screening questions as part of our risk assessment. Currently, there’s no requirement for testing or isolation for residents who leave the care home temporarily, but we encourage them to get vaccinated before taking such trips.

If our residents need to self-isolate within the care home, we can provide them with devices to speak to their loved ones through video calls. We understand how important it is for their mental and physical health to stay connected, so we encourage them to participate in the daily activities organised by our coordinators.

COVID-19 FAQs

We understand the importance of COVID-19 and keeping our residents, their families, and our staff safe. At Hazelwood Care Home, we are always happy to assist and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Here are some of our FAQs regarding COVID-19.

Whilst being vaccinated is no longer mandatory we strongly recommend that all residents, their visitors, and team members at Hazelwood Care Home are fully COVID-19 vaccinated, including future boosters, unless medically exempt. To reduce the risk of infection to others we will continue to encourage our team members to have all their vaccinations.

When transferring from the community or another care home a person does not need to isolate if the circumstances at the care home / interim care facility from which the person has transferred are known.

If the resident is symptomatic or has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, then they should isolate and perform two LFT tests on day (0), and again on day (2). Isolation can end following two negative tests.

If the resident tests positive in the home, they must be isolated for 5 days. The resident can then return to their normal activities if they feel well and do not have a high temperature (without the use of medication paracetamol).

Residents who test positive should avoid contact with other people who are eligible for COVID-19 treatments for 10 days after a positive test. Residents unable to take the test should isolate for 5 days.

During an outbreak, there may be risk assessments carried out to include but not limited to the control of visiting arrangements, admissions to the home, and the use of communal areas for a period of time. We work closely with local and national agencies in accordance with local agreements and guidance. For more information please contact our Home Manager directly.
